Tear your kids away from the TV, video, laptop or games console this Christmas and spend some quality time with them. One of the best ways to involve your children in family time is to come up with some great Christmas games for kids and get the whole family to join in.

The best Christmas games for kids don't cost anything to play and don't require batteries! Equipment for most Christmas games for kids is limited to paper, pencil and imagination.

Christmas Games for Kids: The Treasure Hunt

Hide small Christmas gifts or candy at a dozen locations around your house and yard or garden. At each location leave a clue to the next location. The clue doesn't need to be complicated; a simple drawing of the next hiding place will be enough to entertain your kids and point them in the right direction.

Christmas Games for Kids: Pin The Carrot on the Snowman

This is a Christmassy version of the popular party game, Pin The Tail on the Donkey. Make a snowman figure out of card and tack it to a door or wall. Blindfold your children and get them to stick a cardboard cut-out carrot to the snowman figure. The winner is the child who gets the carrot "nose" closest to the middle of the snowman's face. If you are lucky enough to get real snow at Christmas, substitute the cardboard figures for a real snowman and carrot.

Christmas Games for Kids: Charades

Also known as "Give Us a Clue," charades is a traditional Christmas family and party game. The aim of the game is to act out the title of a book, play, song, TV show or movie without speaking and by using movement and hand signals alone. For younger children, jot down short titles that will be easy for them to act out.

Christmas Games for Kids: Animal, Vegetable or Mineral?

This is a great game for imaginative young minds. Take it in turns to pretend to be something or someone else. The other participants have to guess who or what they are by asking a series of questions to which the answer can be only "yes" or "no." Children will often come up with objects that are amazingly difficult to guess.

Christmas Games for Kids: Yarn Ball

Take small balls of wool, string or yarn and place them in a box or basket beside a wall. Line the children up against a wall and give them each a spoon. Put another basked on the other side of the room. When you shout "Go!" each child should scoop up a ball with their spoon and carry it across the room to the other basket, without dropping the ball. If they do drop the ball, they must start from the beginning.

Christmas Games for Kids: Guess the Weight of the Christmas Pudding

Get your children to guess the weight of the Christmas Pudding or Christmas cake and offer a small prize to the closest guess.
